Hands-on AI learning · For parents
Learn AI. Build with AI. Inspire the next generation.
5-Day Generative AI Bootcamp for Parents. Go from your first prompts to an AI-powered learning assistant you build yourself — five live days, three hours a day. No prior coding experience required.
You learn first. Then bring it home.
Understand the tools shaping your child’s world.
You don’t need to become an AI expert overnight. This bootcamp gives parents a practical understanding of the technology through building: write prompts, connect an API, work with trusted materials, add an agent workflow, and deploy your own project.
The technical curriculum stays hands-on. Each day adds one piece to an AI-powered learning assistant, so you can see how the technology works and ask better questions about its use.
Explore the five daysYour five-day journey
One project. Five practical steps.
Choose a day to see the technical topics, hands-on exercise, and what you’ll build. Each session is three hours.
Day 1Gen AI foundations & prompt engineering
Understand how generative AI and LLMs work, then practice prompts with clear context, instructions, and boundaries.
- How generative AI and LLMs work: tokens, context, and limitations
- Write prompts with a role, context, instructions, and a clear output format
- Compare responses and check for hallucinations and unsupported claims
Your hands-on project
Draft and refine a prompt that explains a learning concept without giving away the answer.
You’ll leave with: A reusable learning-coach prompt.
Day 2AI-powered app development with LLM APIs
Connect an application to an LLM API. Explore requests, responses, and how prompts become part of an app.
- Understand how an app sends a request to an LLM API
- Work with model responses and a simple user interface
- Keep API keys out of browser code and handle errors
Your hands-on project
Build the first version of your AI-powered learning assistant.
You’ll leave with: An app that sends prompts and displays AI responses.
Day 3RAG: connect AI to trusted learning materials
Explore retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): retrieve relevant material and provide it as context for an AI response.
- Understand retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
- Retrieve relevant excerpts from selected learning materials
- Ground responses in those sources and check their accuracy
Your hands-on project
Connect your assistant to selected learning materials and check its answers against the sources.
You’ll leave with: A learning assistant grounded in your chosen materials.
Day 4AI agents & intelligent automation
Learn how agents combine models, tools, and instructions, and where human review belongs in an automated workflow.
- Understand the difference between a chatbot and an agent workflow
- Connect a model to tools and a bounded sequence of tasks
- Add human review, permissions, and clear stopping points
Your hands-on project
Add a guided workflow to your assistant and define when it should ask for human input.
You’ll leave with: A practical AI workflow with clear boundaries.
Day 5Build, deploy & showcase your app
Bring your prompts, APIs, retrieval, and workflows together. Test your project, learn deployment fundamentals, and share what you built.
- Bring prompts, APIs, retrieval, and workflows into one project
- Test incorrect answers, missing sources, and failed requests
- Deploy your app and demonstrate how it works
Your hands-on project
Deploy and demonstrate your AI-powered learning assistant.
You’ll leave with: A working project and a clear next step for continued learning.
Your capstone
Build a learning coach that guides, rather than gives away answers.
Create an assistant that explains concepts, offers practice questions, and draws on selected learning materials. You’ll test its limits and decide where a person needs to check its work.
Use fictional examples or non-sensitive sample materials while building. No children’s personal information is needed to take part.
What your project brings together
- 1A learning-coach prompt with clear instructions
- 2An interface connected to an LLM API
- 3Answers grounded in selected source material
- 4A bounded workflow with human review
- 5A deployed app you can demonstrate
Understand the technology
Explain what generative AI can do, where it struggles, and why its answers need checking.
Build an AI application
Connect a simple interface to an LLM API and turn a prompt into a working learning tool.
Work with trusted material
Use RAG to provide source context and check whether the assistant stays grounded in it.
Set practical boundaries
Design for privacy, human review, and learning support instead of automatic answers.
For curious parents, at every starting point.
Whether you’re opening an AI tool for the first time or already using one, this is a place to learn the foundations and build something yourself. The course is for adults; children do not need to attend.
What to bring
- A laptop with a reliable internet connection
- Three hours a day for five live sessions, plus time to practice
- A willingness to try technical tools and build step by step
- No prior coding, AI, or machine-learning experience required
